The Thetford Town Crier
If talking is silver, then listening is gold

I am Mike Wabe and I am the Town Crier for Thetford in Norfolk.

With the coming of modern communications such as radio, television and the internet, you might think that the Town Crier would become extinct. Not so, and today Town Criers are in great demand for civic ceremonies, charity functions, tourism events and commercial ventures, where their colourful costumes, imposing presence and historical significance are greatly valued. We Town Criers do the job principally because we enjoy keeping an ancient tradition alive, and consider it an honour and a privilege to serve our towns and communities.
So, if you need an unusual, colourful and LOUD way to promote an event, then you should definitely consider using my services.

Getting married, how about a betrothal announcement? It is a bit like the reading of the Banns in church, but with so much more of a flourish! I can wake the bride or bridegroom on their wedding day with a Wake-Up Cry, and/or deliver a proclamation at the Reception.

You can find me on Facebook by clicking on the icon.

I am always willing to consider charity work.

I carry Public Liability Insurance to the value of £5 million.

See one of my Thetford predecessors, 15-year-old Florrie Clarke, and hear me talk about being a Town Crier in Thetford in general, and about Florrie in particular, at the BBC World War One At Home website by clicking HERE.

I am a member of both the Ancient and Honourable Guild of Town Criers and the Loyal Company of Town Criers.

The Eastern Daily Press carried a story about me, which you can read by clicking HERE.

I am also a wedding Toastmaster, click HERE to see my Toastmaster services.
